fabulous friday

It's FRIDAY! But it is also, more importantly, FEBRUARY! Getting January behind us feels great doesn't it? And although its still cold, February is a good month. It's not as ambitious as other months with their 30 or 31 days. February keeps it light, and that's good for a cold month.

I also saw a girl at the coffee shop this morning wearing an eye patch. Not an eye patch you need to wear because your eye is injured, but rather - a very decorative one, with a few small gold chains hanging off of it. I think that when you see someone trying to pull off an eye patch at 10am on a Friday morning it means its going to be a good month.

I like you, February.. I like you a lot.
Here are some things I'm particularly looking forward to:
1. This exhibit at the Met... Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity.  I CANNOT wait!

Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity will present a revealing look at the role of fashion in the works of the Impressionists and their contemporaries. Some eighty major figure paintings, seen in concert with period costumes, accessories, fashion plates, photographs, and popular prints, will highlight the vital relationship between fashion and art during the pivotal years, from the mid-1860s to the mid-1880s, when Paris emerged as the style capital of the world. With the rise of the department store, the advent of ready-made wear, and the proliferation of fashion magazines, those at the forefront of the avant-garde—from Manet, Monet, and Renoir to Baudelaire, Mallarmé, and Zola—turned a fresh eye to contemporary dress, embracing la mode as the harbinger of la modernité. The novelty, vibrancy, and fleeting allure of the latest trends in fashion proved seductive for a generation of artists and writers who sought to give expression to the pulse of modern life in all its nuanced richness. Without rivaling the meticulous detail of society portraitists such as James Tissot or Alfred Stevens or the graphic flair of fashion plates, the Impressionists nonetheless engaged similar strategies in the making (and in the marketing) of their pictures of stylish men and women that sought to reflect the spirit of their age.

2. Fashion week!
Not much has to be said about this one. I'm looking forward to seeing the collections from the front row.. of my living room! February 7th - 14th are the official dates for the madness, and I'm looking forward to seeing insanely fashionable people riding the subway again, and making it just a bit more glamorous for a few days.

 3. Valentines Day

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

I love valentine's day. To be honest, it can be fun even if your single. I remember wearing black on vday, attending anti-valentine's day parties, and pledging to drink nothing but vodka on February 14th. I mean that's kind of fun right?

But now of course I'm in love and this will be my first Valentines as a married woman. I'll probably bake heart shaped cookies, buy super sappy cards and maybe lay off the vodka this year :)

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!
Cheers!
